Can you tell us a bit about yourself and what you were doing prior to buying your CHAMPS Academy franchise business? We were (and still are) working in a residential care home for adults with a severe intellectual disability.
Can you also tell us about CHAMPS Academy franchise It is life skills and confidence coaching for kids and teens. Helping them through the challenges and problems they face growing up.
Why did you go down the franchise route? What made you choose the life skills and well-being industry? And why did you choose CHAMPS? We went down the franchise route as we wanted to start helping kids with confidence/anxiety issues and saw that in our area kids needed help now. If we had formulated our own classes/coaching it would have taken years. We choose this industry as we both are aware from personal experience of the need for this service. We choose CHAMPS Academy after a detailed search of what was available and found CHAMPS was by far the best system.
How did you raise the finance? From savings
What training and support did you receive initially and ongoing? We travelled to the UK for an intensive training with CHAMPS and then we had numerous trainings via online video and using the franchise support website. The support is ongoing and we never feel alone or stuck.
How would you describe your day-to-day role as a CHAMPS Academy franchisee? Organising and nunning Confidence Clubs, one to one sessions. Doing our social media, answering queries. Talking to parents and making new business contacts in the community about our services. Which is easy because most of the time people ask us. Sending out emails, doing the books!! (Part time as we both still work part time)
What challenges have you faced? Learning how to reach our audience can be a big learning curve which we have received a lot of support with, helping make our lives easier. Also organising our time around our busy families.
Has becoming a franchisee changed your life, if so how? Yes it has given us control of our earning potential which is a great feeling. We can work around our families which is important to us. Making a difference to local children and teens, one month we coached and over 171 kids. We’re proud to be contributing to the CHAMPS Mission.
What is the most invaluable piece of advice you could give someone looking to buy their first franchise? Research well. Ask questions until you have all the info you need to make the decision
